k.d. lang Net Worth $20 Million

k.d. lang was raised with three siblings by her father, Adam Frederick Lang, who was a drugstore owner, and her mother, Audrey, who worked as a teacher. When she was a baby, the family moved to Consort, Alberta, where she spent her childhood, and attended Red Deer College.

While in college, Lang became influenced by the life and music of country singer Patsy Cline, enough to start a tribute band called The Reclines that would play Patsy’s music,. However, lang took a step further and recorded her own music, and released her debut album “Friday Dance Promenade” via Sundown Recorders in 1983. Since then, k.d. became heavily involved in the music industry. The Reclines stayed active until 1989, releasing such albums as “A Truly Western Experience” (1984), “Angel With A Lariat” (1987), and “Absolute Rorch And Twang” (1989), which achieved gold status in US and platinum in Canada, increasing lang’s net worth by a large margin.

Following the success with the band, she launched a solo career, and released her debut solo album in 1988, entitled “Shadowland”, which was certified gold in the US and platinum in Canada. She continued solo through the 1990s, releasing albums “Ingenue” (1992), achieving double platinum in the US and Canada as well, “All You Can Eat” (1995), and “Drag” (1997), increasing further her net worth. In the 2000s, Lang released two more albums, “Hyms Of The 49th Parallel” and “Watershed” (2008).

Apart from her successful musical career, KD Lang has also been recognized as an actress, and so far has featured in such productions as “Salmonberries” (1991), which was her film debut, “Eye Of The Beholder” (1999), starring Ewan McGregor and Ashley Judd, and in “Portlandia” (2014), among other roles, which also added a considerable amount to her net worth.

Thanks to her skills, Lang has won four Grammy Awards so far, including Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album among others. For her accomplishments in the music industry, she was awarded with the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards, and in 1996 was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Speaking about her personal life, KD Lang is openly a lesbian, and her free time she devotes to supporting LGBT rights. Beside that, she is known as an animal rights and Tibetan human rights activist. In spare time, Lang enjoys practicing the old school of Tibetan Buddhism. Her current residence is in Los Angeles, California.

#Quote
1[on singer Cass Elliot] It's the timbre of her voice and also her attitude and being a big woman like that and being confident. I'm very attracted to that sort of confidence and individuality. She was cool.
2[on considering herself an artist without a genre] I think I fall into a lot of cracks in terms of I'm too something. I'm too this, I'm too that. And my music has never really had a home. I've been this floating alternative. I'm too mainstream for alternative. I'm too alternative for mainstream. And I'm just kind of wandering.
3[on performing one's own songs] As a songwriter you have an umbilical cord to the song and it's hard to expand on your understanding of the lyrics. Whereas when you cover a song you can create your own reason why you're attached to it.
4I don't sing in the shower but hiking, yes. Every day I sing a little something, to the radio or to the dogs, or a song will come into my head and I'll sing a line of it, randomly.
5[on social networking] It gives me the heebie-jeebies,to be quite honest. The tweeting thing, to me, is just really unnerving. I'm not not interested in [hearing about] somebody having a MacDonald's burger and then 'oh my god, there's a dog crossing the street'.
6[on managing her career] I don't want to have it on the front burner. I like it just simmering. I feel at ease right now because it's at a manageable level. People aren't chasing me around with cameras and making me feel uncomfortable anymore. I often say fame is kind of like a drug or like sugar: when it's controlling you it doesn't feel good at all.
7[on her idol, Peggy Lee] I became a complete junkie for her . . . She represents an era that is leaving us, one where vocals were king.
8I think I have always known it, but I didn't really know there was a name for it, or that it was different, but I have always felt inclined towards women. I have felt inclined towards men - not as deeply or sexually as towards women - but I'm definitely attracted to men.
9One of the reasons I wouldn't sleep with a man is because I wouldn't feel equal, both in that I feel more spiritually advanced than men, and because society places men over women. How do you feel equal when you're with a man?
10I think masculinity is bravado against the mystery of the universe of women. It's just a fear of not knowing what women have that's so powerful. It's this shield they put up to try to get closer.
